Sarah and Greg Moyers couldn’t wait for their daughters to experience Walt Disney World. “They had been saving for such a long time,” Sarah’s best friend Loni Eaton tells Us Weekly. “They were really looking forward to their vacation.”
It was their final family trip.
On Sunday, September 25, just one day before the Moyers were scheduled to drive back home to Leadwood, Missouri, tragedy struck. The family was headed to the beach near DeLand, Florida, when a vehicle drifted into their lane, sending them off the road and into a tree. Sarah and Greg were pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities. Their girls, Haley, 13, and Sophia, 8, were airlifted to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children in Orlando.
The driver of the other car, Charles King, 43, was not injured, per The Orlando Sentinel and the crash is still under investigation.
“Sophia is awake,” Eaton tells Us. “They still have Haley sedated.”
Neither Sophia nor Haley have been told that their parents did not survive. “How do you tell an 8-year-old and a 13-year-old that their parents are never coming home with them?” says Eaton.
Eaton tells Us that the McDonald’s manager and her husband were raising five children together, including Sarah’s son from a previous relationship and her sister’s two kids.
“Sarah would go to all the kids’ games,” says Eaton. “Even though she had a tricky schedule, she always made sure that if Haley had a dance at school or something, that somebody would bring her by there so she could see her. She didn’t want to miss anything.”
Sarah’s final Facebook photo was posted on Saturday, September 24. In the image she is seen smiling with Greg, Sophia and Haley in front of a Buzz Lightyear statue. The caption read: “Having a great time!”
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help raise money for Sophia and Haley.
