That passionate kiss shared by Thor and Dr. Jane Foster in the final scene of The Dark World? Turns out it was actually a real-life exchange between husband and wife!
Chris Hemsworth‘s wife Elsa Pataky took Natalie Portman‘s place in the final kissing scene of the Thor sequel due to a scheduling conflict, Portman told the NY Daily News. The actress was unable to make it back to Marvel Studios in time for reshoots: “He was working in Hong Kong and I couldn’t get there because I was working on my own film,” the Oscar winner explained to the paper.
Luckily, Hemsworth’s blonde, actress wife was conveniently traveling with her husband at the time: “So they put his wife in my wig and costume,” said Portman, 32. “That’s why it was so passionate.”

This wasn’t the only kissing scene complication for the onscreen pair. “I was mainly cast in the role because I can make anyone look huge when they stand next to me,” the 5’3” star joked on The Graham Norton Show back in October. “I’m extraordinarily short. They usually had a ramp for me to walk up so I could land somewhere near his face,” she added of her 6’4” costar Hemsworth.
Spanish-born Pataky, 37, whose film credits include Fast & Furious 6, married Hemsworth in 2010. As first confirmed by Us Weekly on Nov. 20, the parents to 18-month-old daughter India, are now expecting their second baby.
