Holland, 20, who won the crown in September 2015, is a contestant on ITV2’s Love Island, a U.K.-based competition that films on the island of Majorca. On the June 15 episode, she and fellow castmate Alex Bowen got into bed together. No intimate scenes were shown, but comments from the next episode made it clear what happened.

In the following day’s show, the North Ferriby native admitted that she regretted her decision to sleep with Bowen, a 24-year-old scaffolder. “You know when you’re in the moment and it just happens?” she told cameras. “That’s really not like me at all. Why couldn’t we have just gone to sleep?”

After the June 16 show, Miss Great Britain organizers stripped Holland of her title. “We pride ourselves on promoting the positivity of pageants in modern society and this includes the promotion of a strong, positive female role model in our winners,” they said in a statement to the Guardian. “The feedback we have received from pageant insiders and members of the general public is such that we cannot promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward. We wholly understand that everyone makes mistakes, but Zara, as an ambassador for Miss Great Britain, simply did not uphold the responsibility expected of the title.”

Later, organizers clarified their decision on Twitter. “We have no problem at all with sex—it is perfectly natural,” they wrote on June 16. “We simply can’t condone what happened on national tv.”

Holland, who has yet to be informed of the decision by showrunners, will be replaced by runner-up Deone Robertson, Miss North Lanarkshire, who will now compete in July’s 2016 Miss World competition in Holland’s stead.

Representatives from Miss Great Britain will meet Holland once she’s done filming “to fully explain our decision and will wish her the very best going forward.”
