The coolest first lady ever! Michelle Obama showed off her musical talents when she joined James Corden and special guest Missy Elliott for some Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show on Wednesday, July 20. Watch the amazing moment in the video above!
Obama, 52, joined the talk show host for a drive around the White House grounds and admitted it was only the second time in seven-and-a-half years that she’s “been in the passenger seat, listening to music, rocking out like this.” (The previous occasion was a few months ago when her daughter, Malia, 18, was learning to drive.)
We knew that she could move, but FLOTUS showed off some impressive singing skills that rival her husband President Barack Obama‘s as they started off with her favorite singer Stevie Wonder‘s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” before moving on to Beyonce‘s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” (complete with iconic dance moves).
“We were both fully in the Beyhive,” Corden raved.
“We just dropped the mic into the hive,” the first lady agreed. “We were making honey in the Beyhive. We were making honey to put in our Lemonade.”
After talking about the first couple’s Secret Service code names (she’s Renaissance, her husband is Renegade), and the First Lady joining Snapchat to document a trip to Liberia, Morocco and Spain in support of her Let Girls Learn initiative, Missy Elliott suddenly appeared in the backseat.
The trio sang “This Is for My Girls,” which Elliott wrote for the education campaign, before launching into the singer’s 2001 hit “Get Ur Freak On.”
