Never tell them the odds! Alden Ehrenreich may be the new Han Solo in the forthcoming Star Wars prequel, but he had some fierce competition for the coveted role in a hilarious new sketch on Conan.
In the skit, a handful of A-list celebrities auditioned for the role, including Melissa McCarthy, Adam Sandler and 50 Cent. The stars all tried on the beloved character’s vest and gave their best impressions of a young Han.
After confusing Star Wars with Harry Potter and parsecs with parsnips, McCarthy, 45, throws a fit and rips the set apart. “Parsnips is funnier,” she quips to the casting director.
Later in the clip, Sandler, 49, channels his famed Billy Madison character, while Will Arnett shows off his best Batman voice.
During another not-so-great audition, Foster, 53, is asked her name, to which she angrily responds, “Really? I’m Jodie f–king Foster!”
The Conan sketch also stars Bill Hader, Jeff Goldblum, Silicon Valley‘s Thomas Middleditch and Kumail Nanjiani.
As Us Weekly previously reported, Ehrenreich, 26, was announced as the new Han Solo on July 17 after months of speculation. “We thought this was the hardest casting challenge of all time,” director Chris Miller said at the Star Wars Celebration Europe event in London at the time, before revealing that he ultimately decided to “cast the first person who walked through the door.”
Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Scott Eastwood, Dave Franco, Colton Haynes, Tom Felton and Ed Westwick were among the 3,000-plus actors who auditioned to play the character in the upcoming stand-alone prequel.
