And her little dog too! A man jumped into dangerous floodwaters to save a woman and her dog from drowning in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in an incredible video that surfaced on Saturday, August 13.
The clip, posted by WAFB on Saturday, starts out with several men on an emergency boat approaching a half-immersed vehicle, where a woman can be heard shouting for help.
“Oh my God, I’m drowning!” the woman cries. The men initially try to find a knife to cut open the car’s top, and even use a pole to try to break open the car’s back window, but as the seconds tick by, one man, identified by CBS News as David Phung, jumps straight into the water to get to the woman.
In the video, Phung rips open the canvas top of the car and goes underwater to pull the woman out from the fast-disappearing vehicle.
“Get my dog,” the woman says as she bobs just above the brown water. She then attempts to dive back under the murky brown water to retrieve her pooch, but luckily, Phung stops her and dives below himself. After one failed attempt (“I can’t get the dog”) he tries one more time and surfaces triumphant.
“I got your dog,” he tells the woman as he helps her onto the emergency rescue boat.
