Tell us more! Maisie Williams teased fans about the upcoming season 7 of Game of Thrones, and it’s going to be a really, really good one.
The 19-year-old actress, who has played Arya Stark since the show’s 2011 debut, read the initial script for the HBO drama based on George R.R. Martin’s unfinished book series, and she made it sound pretty intense. Williams freaked out in a series of tweets, but obviously couldn’t reveal any of the details.
“Just finished reading season 7,” she wrote on Monday, August 22. “S–t gets REAL,” Williams said in a second tweet.
“I’d start preparing yourselves now,” she continued. “Scratch that, nothing will prepare you for this,” the Doctor Who actress tweeted, adding in a follow-up tweet, “Holy BALLS.”
Williams seems to be one of the lucky few privy to the secretive scripts. Kit Harington, who plays Arya’s illegitimate half-brother Jon Snow, said he hasn’t gotten any spoilers yet in an interview published on Monday. “It’s important to stress at this point that I haven’t had any scripts, so this is all guess work for me,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I think it’s going to get very bleak before if there is a happy ending.”
Sadly, season 7 doesn’t premiere until summer 2017. “Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the story lines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing,” HBO’s president of programming, Casey Bloys, said in a statement last month. “Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”
The upcoming season and the final eighth season will also have less episodes. While each GoT season usually spans 10 episodes, Benioff and Weiss revealed to Deadline that the series will wrap up in less than 15 installments.
