In disbelief. Mac Miller died of an apparent overdose on Friday, September 7, and celebrities took to social media to react to the news. The rapper was 26 years old.

Scooter Braun, the manager of Miller’s ex-girlfriend Ariana Grande, shared a photo of the late artist looking happy along with the words “This was a good man with a great heart. He will be missed and is gone way too soon. I’m angry to sad RIP buddy.” He added in the caption, “Rest in peace, Mac.”
Wiz Khalifa, who helped discover Miller’s music, was one of the first to post about his death. “Praying for Mac’s family and that he rest easy #pgh #412,” the musician tweeted alongside a prayer hands and angel emoji with the hashtags.
Chance the Rapper also worked with Miller and was quick to respond to the heartbreaking news. “I dont know what to say Mac Miller took me on my second tour ever,” he tweeted. “But beyond helping me launch my career he was one of the sweetest guys I ever knew. Great man. I loved him for real. Im completely broken. God bless him.”
Miller’s fellow rapper G-Eazyposted a photo of himself on Instagram late Friday smiling at the late “Self Care” singer, writing, “Completely devastated and heartbroken I’m at a loss for words mac you were like a brother to me and you were there for me in the hardest of times, especially this summer. I can’t believe this is real. Please tell your friends and the people you care about you love them life is so f–king fragile. You will be missed and your music will live on forever through the millions of people you touched. Thank you for all you gave us, love you bro.”

G-Eazy’s paramour Halsey, meanwhile, offered up her own sweet thoughts on the singer’s passing. “Today is a bad dream, she wrote on Instagram on Friday. “Thank you Mac for being a visionary. A smiling, laughing, kindhearted individual. Thank you for being the soundtrack to my high school years. For giving me songs I knew every single word to and screamed at the top of my lungs in my first car the year I got my license. Thank you for giving me punchlines and inside jokes with my best friends. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being such a good friend to Gerald. For making millions of people happy even when you were suffering … Rest easy, Mac. We love you so so so very much.”
April Love Geary posted “the Mac Miller songs that ere the staple of [her] summers in high school” to Instagram Stories on Friday, including “Live Free,” “Another Night” and “Knock Knock.”
For Macklemore, who has been open about his own struggles with addiction, Miller’s death hit especially close to home. He posted a lengthy tribute to the artist, saying, “Such a genuine person. Such a brilliant sense of humor. A true artist. Your spirit is what impressed me the most. The energy you brought into any space you were in. Contagious. You reached out to me at times when other didn’t. You were human. And we shared the same disease. A disease that is out to kill us, and when left untreated eventually will.”
“I’m shaken,” he continued. “Shaken that someone who had such a light can be taken from this world so easily. It could have been me too many times to count. On the surface people that appear to have it all, are not exempt from the gravity and cunning nature of this disease.”

Country singer Maren Morris added, “Damn… Rest In Peace, Mac Miller. My heart breaks for his family and friends.”
TMZ reported that officers responded to Miller’s home in the San Fernando Valley around noon local time on Friday. He was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene. The “Small Worlds” rapper, who was arrested on DUI charges in May, has spoken candidly about his struggles with substance abuse in the past.
“I made a stupid mistake,” Miller told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in July about his the incident, in which he hit a utility pole with his 2016 Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. “I’m a human being. Like, [I] drove home drunk. But it was the best thing that could have happened. … I needed that. I needed to run into that light pole and literally, like, have the whole thing stop.”
