The big 3-0! Lindsay Lohan celebrated her 30th birthday on Saturday, July 2, and it’s crazy to think that it’s been 18 years since the actress was introduced to the world in Disney’s 1998 remake of The Parent Trap. Watch LiLo grow up before your eyes in the video above!
The stunning redhead, who celebrated her landmark birthday on Saturday with a colorful Instagram shot, began her career as a child model at age 3, appearing in dozens of TV commercials and ads for companies including Pizza Hut, Calvin Klein Kids, Jell-O and Abercrombie.
In 1998, she had her breakout role in The Parent Trap at age 12. The young actress played the duel role of twins Annie and Hallie alongside her onscreen parents, Dennis Quaid and Natasha Richardson.
Lohan starred in two Disney TV movies, Life-Size (with costar Tyra Banks) and Get a Clue, in the early aughts before she landed the lead role in two Disney feature films, Freaky Friday and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, in 2003 and 2004, respectively. The latter film earned Lohan the Breakthrough Performance Award at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards and remains one of her most successful movies to date.
The Long Island native stepped out of her Disney shoes in April 2004 when she starred in Mean Girls, a teen comedy scripted by Tina Fey and produced by Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels. The film has since developed a cult following and was even deemed a “classic” on its 10th anniversary by The New Yorker. That year, Lohan also released her debut album, Speak.
In the years that followed, the former child star quickly became a tabloid fixture after several arrests, court appearances and trips to rehab and jail. She returned to the small screen in November 2012 in Lifetime’s TV biopic Liz & Dick, in which she portrayed Elizabeth Taylor.
Lohan also starred in a self-titled docuseries, Lindsay, on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network in early 2014. The eight-episode series followed the star as she worked towards a comeback and recovery.
In April 2016, the actress got engaged to Russian business heir Egor Tarabasov. She recently told Vanity Fair that she hopes to start a family with her 23-year-old beau after she gets “some movies done, first,” of course.
