It’s been three years since Glee alum Cory Monteith was found dead at a hotel in Vancouver, British Columbia, but his fans and celebrity friends still mourn the loss, and on Wednesday, July 13, they took to Twitter to celebrate his life.
“I know everyday you’re watching over me, and smiling,” Monteith’s then-girlfriend, Lea Michele, wrote. “Love and miss you Cory, everyday, but today a little more…”
“The time may pass but the warmth of your generous soul and the humility in your goofball nature will never fade,” the actor’s Glee costar Jenna Ushkowitz captioned a throwback photo on Instagram, of Monteith sitting at a drum set. “You are and always will be our quarterback. We miss you, friend. #3yearswithoutcory.”
“Always missed and never forgotten,” fellow Glee alum Naya Rivera tweeted, along with a red heart emoji and the hashtag “#3YearsWithoutCory.”
Monteith died at the age of 31 from an overdose of heroin and alcohol following a brief stint in rehab just a few months prior, in April 2013. Michele, whom he was dating at the time, was devastated to hear the news and has grieved the date of his death each year with a photo and a touching note.
“Today we remember the laughter and joy you brought into our lives every day,” she captioned a shot of Monteith driving in a Twitter post last year. “We think of you always and love you so.”
In April, the 29-year-old Scream Queens actress got a tiny number “5” tattooed on the side of her rib cage in honor of Monteith’s character Finn, whose football jersey number was 5.
