Lamar Odom Took Herbal Viagra, Which Can Be “Deadly Combo” When Combined With Most Drugs or Alcohol, Expert Says

Lamar Odom Specialist Interview: Herbal Viagra
Lamar Odom's herbal Viagra is a "deadly combo" when mixed with other drugs and alcohol, an expert tells Us -- all the details

Prior to being found unconscious on Oct. 13, Lamar Odom had reportedly been taking herbal Viagra, which can be a “deadly combo” when mixed with other drugs and alcohol, addiction specialist and founder of Breathe Life Healing Centers, Brad Lamm, tells Us Weekly.

According to Lamm, herbal Viagras are readily available at gas stations or online and are mostly unregulated and mainly imported from China.

“The promise of all of them is the same as real Viagra,” Lamm tells Us. “Its effect is that your veins and capillaries are opened…the downside to it is, if you’re using other drugs or alcohol that lower your blood pressure and influence how your heart works, it’s a real problem. With alcohol it raises your heart rate and that can be a very deadly combo.”

As a source previously told Us, Odom, 35, had “a significant amount of cocaine found in his system" and, according to Love Ranch owner Dennis Hof, had been taking herbal Viagra as well as drinking Cognac.

Lamm notes that with people who have a history of substance abuse, users generally also take “poppers,” which are "inhalants that are used to heighten sexual pleasure during orgasms.”

“One should stay away from poppers, cocaine, and alcohol — it takes you out of the party and everything becomes much more dangerous because of the effect of the veins and capillaries being opened. Many people do mix these and don’t overdose, but what can happen is that someone will get arrhythmia where the heart starts beating irregularly and then one could go into respiratory arrest, which is where the heart actually stops.”

Lamm adds that herbal Viagras — some are called “Pop Up” and “Stay Hard” — aren’t controlled so there’s no way to really tell what they’re made of.

“When someone takes these, you get a feeling similar to a small dose of speed and it increases blood flow in all the right spots,” Lamm explains. “They’re very common and easy to buy. Mostly the ingredients are not listed and you don’t know what’s in it when you ingest it, that’s a big warning sign."
