Not easy to forget. In a preview for the Wednesday, March 2, episode of Kocktails With Khloé, Khloé Kardashian opens up about the time in her childhood when her famous family was at the center of O.J. Simpson’s 1995 murder trial. According to the reality star, the Kardashian clan’s first taste of fame wasn’t so sweet.
“My sisters [Kourtney and Kim], who are older than me, they would be in the courtroom with my dad [Robert Kardashian] all the time,” the Strong Looks Better Naked author, 31, reveals. “They have more information, but even if I would get pulled over the cops hated us ’cause my dad was defending O.J. Simpson.” (Kardashian’s father was a member of Simpson’s legal team along with lawyers Johnnie Cochran and Robert Shapiro, among others.)
The Kardashians’ connection to the case didn’t just cause problems with the police, though. It also made everyday activities — like going out to eat — a struggle.
“We’ve been kicked out of restaurants,” Kardashian explains to celeb guests including Lisa Rinna, Marlon Yates Jr. and YouTube star GloZell Green.
“[Our] cars [would] get keyed, like, with ‘guilty’ all over it,” she continues in the clip. “People would not allow us to eat at their establishments … But cops hated us. Like if they would run our plates, we would get pulled over for anything and everything.”
Since the premiere of FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, the infamous trial has been grabbing headlines again more than 20 years after Simpson was acquitted of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, who was close friends with Kris Jenner.
While Kardashian has said the miniseries’ version of events is not entirely accurate, she is happy with the way it has represented her late dad.
“I lived one version of it. I’ve seen bits and pieces,” she said during a February 23 appearance on James Corden’s Late Late Show. “And I’m grateful for the way they’ve portrayed my father.”
