Not a designer boot! Kelly Ripa was sporting a not-so-trendy new fashion accessory when she made her entrance on Live! With Kelly and Michael on Thursday, July 30.
The show’s co-host, 44, walked out on crutches with a giant boot over her left foot.
“I’m like, ‘Maybe nobody will notice,’” she joked of her injury.
Turns out, Ripa broke four bones in her foot during a routine dance class.
“Somebody had left a weight on the floor,” she explained to her co-host Michael Strahan. “I did a jump — and in my mind I’m an incredible dancer, graceful as can be — and I landed on the weight. My foot went over and under the weight. I just heard, it sounded like bubble wrap, you guys.”
The talk show veteran refused to call an ambulance for fear of being “on the evening news,” and instead crawled out of the dance studio.
Fortunately, her injury will not require surgery. However, she does have to wear the boot for six weeks.
“Let me tell you, I don’t plan on being in this thing that long,” she told the audience. “[The doctor] was like ‘six weeks,’ I give it three weeks.”
One positive to come out of her current condition was the hilarious reaction from her husband, Mark Consuelos.
“Mark is at the hospital with me and has never in 21 years felt the need to photograph me, videotape me, when I have full hair and makeup, nothing,” she noted. “But yesterday, he was like [fashion photographer] Scavullo. He followed me around with a camera. He was never more alive. He loved this moment of suffering.”
Ripa then played the footage her hubby took of her in a wheelchair in the hospital.
“I’ve never seen you this happy,” she said in the clip. “It’s great to know that my suffering brings you such joy.”
