Just Kate! More than five years after Jon Gosselin made his final appearance on Jon & Kate Plus 8, Kate Gosselin is now focusing on herself and her children.
The reality star, 39, dished on her dating life and the state of her family while promoting The Celebrity Apprentice 7 at the Television Critics Associate panel on Friday, Jan. 16.
"I don't have [a relationship with Jon anymore]," she admitted of her ex-husband. "I give the kids… some of the kids visit and some don't and I keep the peace. That's what I've always done. It's best for the kids."
"I wish that things were better for the kids," she added of her dynamic with Jon. "It's very clear by now that I'm just trying to preserve what relationship he has with them. I do think it's best for them, but, you know, divorce is hard, period. But it's really difficult when one parent is in the sabotaging mode. That's been difficult."
Kate split from Jon, now 37, in 2009 after the two stars had welcomed eight children together. The couple's messy divorce was finalized in December 2009 and Kate was given custody of Cara, Madelyn, Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah, and Joel.
"There are days when I say, 'I'm quitting and not coming back,'" she said of parenting eight children. "I think every mom feels that way."
While she is bearing the heavy load of being a single parent, Kate said she isn't actively looking for a partner.
"I would love to date, but I don’t have time to date," she spilled. "I don't know that I really have time to think about [what I want in a man]. Our obvious issue [is] we're a family people have heard of. It's that publicity piece. There's eight kids [and] it's really loud and stressful in my house. I mean, anybody that can kind of work through all that, you know, that's a lot of gates there they gotta get through."
Kate may not have her love life as a priority, but she said that her children, who still see and speak to their dad from time to time, are starting to ask questions.
"They are [asking] more and more," she said of her expansive brood. "There's kind of a man presence definitely missing this many years later. But I'm never gonna be that mom that is going to make the mistake of bringing anybody home. I don't have a lot of time to be out there searching for someone, so I want to do it right and I would love for them to have that male role model. It is lacking."
