Honeymoon horror! Justin Theroux almost drowned during his Bora Bora honeymoon with Jennifer Aniston back in August. The Leftovers actor revealed what exactly happened during an appearance on Live With Kelly and Michael on Friday, Dec. 4.
Us Weekly broke the news that Theroux, 44, and the Friends alum, 46, secretly tied the knot at their lavish L.A. mansion on Aug. 5. They later jetted off to the Four Seasons resort with some of their closest friends, including Courteney Cox and Jason Bateman. During the trip, the A-list couple enjoyed some yoga, swimming, and — dangerously for the hunky star — scuba diving.
Theroux explained to the daytime co-hosts that things went a bit awry on the second day of his diving lessons. The problem? His French instructor didn’t understand English that well. Theroux got nervous when he saw his oxygen tank was running out, but the instructor just ignored his requests to get a new one.
“He just kept swimming away from me,” Theroux said. “I got to my friend [and said], ‘Dude, look.’ And he said, ‘Oh my God, you are about to die.'”
Luckily, the instructor finally gave in and helped him. “He pulls the emergency respirator out, puts it in my mouth, hits this clear button, which sends all these bubbles out, and it sends water down my throat,” Theroux continued. “So now I’m also linked to this jerk because now I have to swim alongside him and finally he rolls his eyes and we go up.”
He added, laughing: “I’m just looking at this guy through my mask [thinking], ‘I’m going to murder this guy.’ I was going to throw the biggest haymaker!”
