He’s back! Jon Stewart returned to TV on Thursday, July 21, to chime in on presidential nominee Donald Trump‘s speech at the Republican National Convention.
The Daily Show alum sported a beard and wore a grey T-shirt as he popped up from under the desk of former colleague Stephen Colbert on The Late Show as the CBS host talked about Roger Ailes quitting as chariman and CEO of Fox News amid accusations of sexual harassment.
But Ailes wasn’t the one Stewart, 53, wanted to talk about. He was all about the upcoming presidential election, and took over Colbert’s chair as the host, 52, helped him slip into a jacket and clipped a tie to his tee. Watch what Stewart said in the video above!
“Well, the convention’s over,” he told the cheering audience. “I thought Donald Trump was gonna speak. Ivanka said that he was gonna come out. She said he was really compassionate and generous, but then this angry groundhog came out, and he just vomited on everybody for an hour.”
“The Republicans appear to have a very clear plan for America,” he continued. “They articulated it throughout the convention. 1. Jail your political opponent; 2. Inject Rudy Giuliani with a speedball and Red Bull enema; and then 3. Spend the rest of the time scaring the holy bejesus out of everybody.”
He then talked about the idea that conservatives now have to embrace the qualities in the GOP nominee that they previously hated in President Barack Obama — “a thin-skinned narcissist with no government experience” — before targeting the flip-flopping commentary of Fox News anchor Sean Hannity, who he nicknamed “Lumpy.”
Stewart also targeted Trump supporters, telling them, “This country isn’t yours. You don’t own it! … You don’t own patriotism, you don’t own Christianity. You sure as hell don’t own respect for the bravery and sacrifice of military, police and firefighters.”
He dropped some expletives aimed at the delegates on the RNC floor who actively fought against a bill in support of 9/11 responders before Colbert popped up from under the desk to remind him that the show was live.
But before he could continue his diatribe against “Lumpy and his friends,” Colbert pulled out an air horn.
