Some of the Bush family is on board. George H.W. Bush and his son Jeb Bush took to Twitter to congratulate Donald Trump on being elected the 45th president of the United States in a shocking victory over his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton.
The 41st commander in chief, 92, sent well-wishes from himself and his wife, Barbara Bush, on Twitter on Wednesday, November 9. “Barbara and I congratulate @realDonaldTrump, wish him well as he guides America forward as our next President. His family is in our prayers,” he tweeted.
Jeb, 63, who ran against Trump in the Republican primary, also commended the ex–Celebrity Apprentice host on his victory. “Congratulations on your victory @realDonaldTrump. As our President, [my wife] Columba and I will pray for you in the days and months to come,” he wrote on Twitter. The pair fought a bitter battle until he dropped out of the primary race in February.
It was rumored that George H.W. Bush voted for Clinton despite his longtime affiliation with the Republican party. Back in September, Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend, the daughter of the late Robert F. Kennedy, posted a photo with the former POTUS, writing, “The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!”
Meanwhile, Jeb announced in May that he would not vote for Trump or Clinton. “I will support principled conservatives at the state and federal levels,” he wrote on Facebook.
The 42nd president of the United States, George W. Bush, made the same decision. A spokesman for the Bush family told CNN earlier this week that the family voted early in Texas and did not vote for either of the major party candidates. Instead, they left the presidential section of their ballots blank and voted for Republicans across the rest of the ballot.
