To the left, Holly Holm! The UFC women’s bantamweight champion, who made history after defeating her opponent Ronda Rousey last weekend, opened up to HuffPost Live on Monday, Nov. 23, about the state of their relationship.
“Um, I haven’t talked to her. I hope she’s doing well,” Holm, 34, said. “I know there’s a lot of emotion going into a fight, but everything in a fight — none of it comes out of an evil heart. It’s just two people chasing the same dream . . . Her confidence is also what’s helped her to get to where she’s at. Sometimes it’s a double-edged sword. Sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don’t. I can’t say it’s a good or bad thing. I know her confidence has taken her far.”
Ever the diplomat, Holm praised Rousey, 28, for putting women’s boxing on the radar. “You know, I appreciate the champion that she’s been . . . I appreciate everything she’s done for the sport,” Holm said. “I don’t think she wants to go out of her way and sitting down and getting coffee with me . . . I don’t have any hate toward my opponents, but I’m in there to win.”
Holm also made headlines this week after revealing her first encounter with superstar couple Jay Z and Beyonce. The athlete was in Las Vegas this past Saturday where she found herself in the company of the A-listers, who were at a VIP viewing party for the Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto match.
“I met Jay Z and he says, ‘This is my wife,'” Holm recalled to Alburquerque’s local radio station KRQE on Monday. “And I say, ‘Oh, hi what is your name?’ That is what I do when I meet someone’s wife. As I am shaking her hand, I am thinking, ‘Why did I just say that?'”
Beyonce, however, found Holm’s reaction rather surprising — and refreshing. Holm said the songstress told her not to worry about the interaction. “My life has changed a little bit,” Holm joked. “Hopefully everything will be somewhat normal at home.”
