Harrison Ford Talks Star Wars, Plane Crash With Jimmy Kimmel (While Dressed as a Hot Dog!)

It was time for Harrison Ford to do some serious talking during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, Oct. 29 — but while the subject matter was no joke, Ford’s attire for the conversation was anything but sensible!

Decked out in a hot dog outfit (with a dog snout for added disguise), a straight-faced Ford refused to give away too much about the much anticipated new movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But he did let one thing slip — the film is really, really good!

“What is there to say?” the Han Solo star asked Kimmel as he dug for details. “And why would you want to say anything? I want the audience to experience it. I don’t want them to hear anything about it,” he added.

He was however prepared to admit that he had been injured on the set of the movie. And it turns out he didn’t get injured by a garage door, despite what the police report stated. “It was the door to the Millennium Falcon,” Ford admitted.

Kimmel was curious: So did the police lie, to cover up the real story for the Star Wars filmmakers? “Woof!” replied the dog-part of the actor’s hot dog costume!

Similarly tight-lipped about the reason Luke Skywalker doesn’t feature on the movie’s new poster (“There’s a very good reason. I can’t tell you,” he replied when Kimmel asked), Ford did offer a little bit of personal opinion in place of any hard facts. “I can tell you this, it’s really, really good,” he added.

Thankfully, when it came to talking about his own recent plane crash, Ford was a little more open. Although, as he explained, there was a limit to what he could say about that incident too.

“I remember the engine stopping, I remember that part very well,” he told his show host (who was dressed as Princess Leia, incidentally). “And then I remember telling the tower what I was going to do. And then I remember their suggestion,” Ford said of his decision to make an emergency landing on a golf course. “Their suggestion was that I take the normal route to land and I knew I wasn’t going to do that, so I said no. And that’s the last thing that I remember until five days afterwards actually.”

Although the actor wasn’t rendered unconscious after landing, his memory of details following the crash are limited.

“I’m told by the doctors that the amount of general anesthetic that I got induced a retrograde amnesia,” Ford explained, adding that he hasn’t watched any TV footage of the accident.
