Grande with a serious shot of espresso! Governor Rick Scott stopped by a Starbucks on Tuesday, April 5, in Gainesville, Florida, and got way more than just a cup of joe. An angry fellow customer cussed out the politician over some of his health-care decisions.
In a video of the incident on YouTube, a woman — who has been identified by local TV station WFTS as Cara Jennings — confronts the governor over his decision to oppose an expansion of Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act in favor of Florida’s own Medicaid program, known as Low Income Pool. According to The Washington Post, Jennings also laid into Scott over an antiabortion bill he signed last week that cuts all state funding for entities like Planned Parenthood.
“You cut Medicaid, so I couldn’t get Obamacare.… You’re an a‑‑hole!” Jennings screams at the governor. “You don’t care about working people. You should be ashamed to show your face around here.”
Scott, who stayed calm during the encounter, replied, “Oh, really?” before stating that he’s helped create a million jobs.
“A million jobs? Great! Who here has a great job?” Jennings asked, gesturing to the people around her before Scott made his way to the exit. “Shame on you, Rick Scott! Rich people like you don’t know what to do!”
The video has since gone viral. Scott has yet to address the altercation.
