Having a little fun at the GOP’s expense. Elizabeth Banks mocked Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s entrance at the RNC in Cleveland when she appeared at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, July 26.
Like Trump’s Monday, July 18, entrance, The Hunger Games star, 42, slowly walked on stage at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, enveloped in a cloud of fog, with only her silhouette visible against a bright screen as she slowly clapped and Queen’s “We Are the Champions” blared from the speakers.
“You know, I don’t usually say this about Donald Trump, but that was over the top. I confirmed it just now,” Banks said. “I just bought that fog machine on eBay for $30. I don’t feel good about it. I don’t.”
But she wasn’t done with the former Apprentice star just yet.
“I’m Elizabeth Banks,” the actress continued. “Some of you may know me from The Hunger Games, in which I play Effie Trinket, a cruel, out of touch reality TV star who wears insane wigs while living in a violent dystopia. When I went to Cleveland last week, I was like, ‘Hey! That’s my act!’”
Banks then moved on to more serious issues, discussing how her parents, like millions of Americans, struggled to give their children opportunities and a future.
“Did you know that when Hillary Clinton graduated law school, she didn’t just sell out and work for some fancy law firm? She went to work advocating for children and families. It was one of her first fights and since then, she has never let up,” Banks said.
“Hillary knows that when you fight for our kids, you are fighting for our future, and that is why I’m with her,” the star concluded.
Clinton, 68, made history Tuesday when she was officially declared the Democratic presidential nominee, becoming the first woman to be chosen to lead the presidential ticket of a major party.
