Shortly after photographers caught Kristen Stewart making out with Rupert Sanders in L.A. July 17, the 22-year-old actress issued a statement expressing her remorse for hurting the man she claims to love most: Robert Pattinson, 26.
"I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected," a remorseful Stewart said July 25. "This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry."
In her public apology, Stewart made no explicit mention of Liberty Ross, Sanders' 33-year-old wife and the mother of his two children, ages 7 and 5.
(Sanders, 41, issued his own statement July 25, telling Us Weekly: "I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.")
According to a source, Stewart is "very angry at herself" for getting involved with her Snow White and the Huntsman director (see the new issue of Us Weekly for exclusive photos and details from their steamy rendezvous). "She's really not blaming anyone but herself."
Pattinson, meanwhile, "is beyond devastated," a second insider said. "He's so heartbroken. He's shocked she could hurt him and humiliate him this way."
As for Ross? A pal told Us she's still struggling to come to terms with her husband's infidelity. "They have a really strong family life and Rupert is always so wonderful to her and the kids," the pal explained. "It's really shocking."
