David Bowie’s family will hold a private ceremony to celebrate the late icon. The announcement was posted on the singer’s official Facebook page on Thursday, January 14.
“The family of David Bowie is currently making arrangements for a private ceremony celebrating the memory of their beloved husband, father and friend,” the statement read. “They ask once again that their privacy be respected at this most sensitive of times.”
“We are overwhelmed by and grateful for the love and support shown throughout the world,” the message continued. “Just as each and every one of us found something unique in David’s music, we welcome everyone’s celebration of his life as they see fit.”
As previously reported, Bowie died at the age of 69 on Sunday, January 10, following an 18-month battle with liver cancer. Bowie’s celebrity friends and fans have been paying their respects via social media following the news of his death.
Bowie’s wife, supermodel Iman, also posted a quote and photo of her longtime love on Sunday. “The struggle is real, but so is God,” she shared.
Bowie’s loved ones are appreciative of the outpouring of love they’ve received during this difficult time. However, the Facebook page noted that the tributes and concerts that are currently being planned are not “official memorials organized or endorsed by the family.”
