Live and learn — but not from James Bond. After playing 007 in four films, including the upcoming Spectre, Daniel Craig knows exactly who the MI6 agent is and what he represents. And though he's on the right side of the fight between good and evil, Bond is certainly no saint.
Speaking about the character in an interview with Red Bull's The Red Bulletin, Craig, 47, said the womanizing super-spy has "nothing" to teach us about life and is "actually a misogynist."
"Let's not talk these films up as some kind of life-changing experience," he told the site. "Bond is what Bond does. Bond is very single-minded. He takes his own course. And that's simple, which is great."
He has some good qualities, of course — and not just in terms of how he looks in a tux (or shirtless!). "Bond can be a gentleman. Sometimes, anyway. He's a considerate person, he takes care of business, and he looks out for other people and his family. He's someone who opens doors for people — for everyone, that is, not just women," Craig mused.
"But let's not forget that he's actually a misogynist," the actor added. "A lot of women are drawn to him chiefly because he embodies a certain kind of danger and never sticks around for too long."
The British hunk previously spoke about Bond's "sexist and misogynistic" ways with Esquire, telling the mag in September that he hoped his version of the character — who's also been played by the likes of Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, and Roger Moore — is slightly more evolved in his attitude toward women.
Told by The Red Bulletin that his Bond does indeed seem "more chivalrous," Craig replied, "That's because we've surrounded him with very strong women who have no problem putting him in his place."
Craig himself got a little taste of that earlier this month, when Ellen Pompeo took him to task on Twitter for some comments he'd made about playing Bond in future films. "I'd rather break this glass and slash my wrists," he told Time Out London.
The Grey's Anatomy star tweeted a link to an article about Craig's interview, writing, "This dude needs a reality check."
