Heartbreaking news. Country duo Joey + Rory announced that they will be canceling the remainder of their 2015 Farmhouse Concert tour dates on Friday, Oct. 23, after making the difficult decision to stop treatment for Joey’s cervical cancer.
“It is with great regret that we must cancel our November and Deember Joey + Rory Farmhouse Concert dates effective immediately due to Joey’s health,” a statement posted to the Feek’s website reads. “Thank you for your understanding and prayers.”
According to a post to Rory’s blog on Friday, the couple tried a first round of chemotherapy for Joey’s Stage IV cervical cancer, but the treatment was ineffective. Doctors found what appeared to be tumors that had spread to her abdomen via CT scans earlier this week.
“Sometimes there just aren’t enough surgeries – or doctors — or chemotherapies — or prayers,” he wrote. “And you have to wipe the tears from your cheeks and say the words that you were hoping to never have to say … Enough.”
The singer made it clear that he and Joey are trying to look on the bright side of things, however.
“We came home. Not to die. But to live,” he continued. “To put our hands in each others and sit out on the back porch and watch the sun set as our sweet little baby girl plays on a blanket in front of us. To bask in the glory of the beautiful life He’s blessed us with, and try not to question why we can’t have more of it together. And why He is allowing this to happen.”
Rory and Joey tied the knot in 2002 and have one daughter, Indiana Boon Feek, whom they welcomed to the world in February 2014.
In a blog post following Indiana’s birth, Joey called her the “single greatest thing she’s ever experienced in her life.”
