Christina Grimmie was shot twice, once in her head and once in her chest, an autopsy of the late Voice contestant revealed on Friday, July 22.
The report, which was released by the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office, also showed that her killer, 27-year-old Kevin Loibl, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in the incident, which took place in Orlando on June 10.
The 22-year-old’s cause of death was ruled a homicide, and no drugs were found in either her or Loibl’s systems.
“In consideration of the circumstances surrounding the death, and after examination of the body, toxicology analysis, and review of the available medical records, it is in my opinion that the death of Christina Grimmie, a 22-year-old white female witnessed to have been shot by another and subsequently transported to the hospital, is the result of gunshot wounds of the head and chest,” the report reads. “The manner of death is homicide.”
As Us Weekly previously reported, the beloved YouTube star performed with the band Before You Exit in Orlando, and had been signing autographs for fans for about half an hour after the show when Loibl walked up to her and shot her twice.
Grimmie’s brother, Marcus, was nearby and tackled Loibl to the ground. The gunman fatally shot himself in the ensuing struggle. The singer was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Grimmie’s parents spoke at her memorial service about the pain of losing their child.
“I don’t have too much to say,” her mother, Tina, began before breaking down in tears, according to an eyewitness. “To anybody who says that I’m strong, I want you to know that I’m the weakest person here, and I declare my dependence on Jesus Christ because I don’t have anything else. It’s just so much.”
Grimmie was laid to rest in New Jersey on Friday, June 17.
