Real life can be, well, really awkward! Chris Harrison had an awkward interaction with Constance Zimmer over the eerie parallels between her hit show, UnREAL, and his own reality franchise The Bachelor during a red carpet interview at the Emmys on Sunday, September 18 (which you can watch in the video above).
“I’m here with Constance Zimmer, for the show called UnREAL,” Harrison, 45, introduced the actress, also 45.
“It’s behind the scenes of the making of a dating competition show. I don’t really know what that [entails],” Zimmer joked, in a clear nod to Harrison’s role as the longtime host of The Bachelor franchise.
“If there were something like that, I would definitely be familiar with it,” Harrison said, playing along. “Obviously, we kid, because it’s based loosely on the concept of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette.”
“Are you serious?” Zimmer deadpanned. “Nobody told me.”
UnREAL tells the behind-the-scenes story of a dating competition show and the drama that it entails.
Harrison made the moment even more prickly with his next comment: “One thing does make me angry about the show. The host of your show, the fake show, is the kind of doofus that the executive producer, which you play, hates. They hate him. That is so spot-on, it makes me angry.”
Zimmer, unsure of how to respond to the Bachelor host’s subtle joke, tried to keep a straight face as she struggled to wiggle out of the situation. “I was going to say, I hope you don’t think I hate you,” she said.
“It’s so spot-on, he’s such a doofus, it’s so accurate,” Harrison responded.
“He improvs a lot,” Zimmer replied.
