A very tough day. Official photographs of Celine Dion‘s memorial service for her late husband were released late on Thursday, January 21, showing Dion and her brave 14-year-old son René-Charles paying their last respects to René Angélil.
The 47-year-old singer greeted thousands of mourners who showed up for the visitation at the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal. After a private memorial service for friends and family members, Dion stood by an open casket for seven hours to receive well wishes and condolences.
The photographs, which show the strain of the day on the faces of all involved, were released by Feeling Productions Inc., the company owned by Angélil.
Later today, Friday, January 22, Angélil will be laid to rest at a national funeral, which will be held at the same church, the Notre-Dame Basilica, where Dion and her husband were married in 1994. The funeral will be live-streamed around the world.
“From anywhere across the globe, it will be possible to follow René Angélil’s state funeral online tomorrow,” Dion tweeted on Thursday, along with a link to a website made in his honor.
Angélil died at his home in Nevada at the age of 73 on Thursday, January 14, following a long battle with throat cancer.
