Stars including John Legend, Demi Lovato, Olivia Wilde and Don Cheadle have responded to the news that five police officers have been killed and many others injured after two snipers opened fire during a Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas on Thursday, July 7.
As Us Weekly reported previously, Dallas Police Chief David Brown said in a statement that the snipers shot at 11 officers from “elevated positions” near Dealey Plaza during a protest over shootings by police earlier this week of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.
In addition to the five deceased officers, at least three of the injured are in critical condition. “Some officers were shot in the back,” Brown added during a press conference, and he told reporters that they believed a bomb may have been hidden somewhere downtown.
As news of the sniper shootings broke, celebrities jumped on Twitter to react to the tragedy.
These Dallas shootings are horrific. Killing these officers is morally reprehensible and completely counterproductive to keeping us safe.

“These Dallas shootings are horrific,” Legend wrote. “Killing these officers is morally reprehensible and completely counterproductive to keeping us safe. Being against cops killing is not equal to being for killing cops. We need peace in our streets.”
“It is truly tragic when a vicious few turn a peaceful protest into a bloodbath. Horrific and sad. #nomoreviolence,” added Wilde.

My heart hurts. Too much death. Too much hate. Hug your loved ones tight. Tell them that in the darkest times, we MUST love even harder.
