Caitlyn Jenner will publish a tell-all memoir about her transformation from male to transgender female, Vanity Fair writer Buzz Bissinger confirmed to the New York Times on Tuesday, January 19.
Bissinger, 61, the acclaimed, bestselling author of Friday Night Lights, wrote Jenner’s July 2015 Vanity Fair cover story that was part of the reality star’s debut as a woman. The Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist made his own headlines several years ago after revealing his closet fetish of cross-dressing in a tell-all GQ piece.
“I’ve also been open about cross-dressing and certain aspects of gender fluidity, and that created a bond,” Bissinger told the paper on Tuesday. According to the scribe, the former Olympian, 66, approached him about the project after the VF piece was published. Us Weekly was first to report last October that Jenner was being courted to write a memoir about her transition.
According to the Times, the memoir will detail Jenner’s childhood to her golden years as an Olympic decathlete, her marriages to Chrystie Crownover and Linda Thompson, as well as her 23-year marriage to Kris Jenner. Finally, the book will discuss Jenner’s now-famous transition into a transgender woman.
“I made it clear to her before I agreed that everything has to be on the table, nothing can be left out, and I’m going to be interviewing dozens of other people,” Bissinger disclosed to the paper. “It’s her book, but it’s going to be reported out to keep her honest. She’s been incredibly open, and I think it has the potential to be a really important book.”
Jenner released a separate statement to the New York Times. “Things have been moving so quickly,” she reflected to the paper. “It will be nice to slow things down a bit and take the proper time to reflect on this journey.”
Meanwhile, Jenner’s E! docuseries I Am Cait was renewed last October for a second season.
