Britney Spears: I Almost Died on My Hawaiian Vacation

She’s so lucky … she’s alive! Britney Spears revealed in a Wednesday, August 24, interview with BBC Radio 1 that she almost drowned while vacationing in Hawaii earlier this summer.

Chatting with DJ Scott Mills, the “Make Me…” singer, 34, opened up about her frightening near-death experience. The superstar told Mills that what started out as a casual trip to the beach turned into a nightmare after she was sucked under the ocean by strong “6-foot waves.”

“I went out and I thought it was like a wave pool, and I was like, This is so nice and refreshing and just beautiful,” Spears recounted. “But the thing I didn’t think about is when you come back, the waves really come in hard.”

The mom of two — who loves to spend time in the tropical state with sons Sean Preston, 10, and Jayden James, 9, during breaks from her Piece of Me Las Vegas residency — admitted that she thought she could have lost her life that day.

“I got sucked under for, like, five minutes. I literally almost drowned. And I’m like, Where is my security? They’re just going to let me die here?” the pop princess lamented. “And then I came in again and another wave took me under.”

Thankfully, Spears made it out of the water in one piece. And now that she’s back on solid ground, the Grammy winner — who is slated to perform material from her forthcoming album, Glory, at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday, August 28 — is looking forward to the next phase in her career. In fact, she’s even eyeing a potential gig at the 2017 Super Bowl.

“I would have to have a little support group, another artist, of course,” the entertainer, who lit up the stage at the Super Bowl in 2001 with ’NSync and Aerosmith, said Wednesday. “I don’t think you would ever do the Super Bowl alone. That would be kind of scary.”

Spears’ ninth studio album, Glory, drops Friday, August 26.
