Not so fast! Brie Larson may have had a huge year at the movies, but there’s one phrase being used to describe her that she’s hilariously perplexed about.
In a new interview with CBS News on Sunday, Dec. 6, the Room actress, 26, expressed her feelings about being referred to as the new “it” girl.
“What is ‘it’?” Larson asked. “There is no ‘it’! And who was ‘it’ before ‘it’? And when does ‘it’ go away? When did I get ‘it’? Who’s gonna take ‘it’?”
She added, laughing, “I think it’s a really funny term. I’m just a person. I’m not anything!”
Although Larson may not like or understand the term, she earned “it” on the big screen in 2015. Over the summer, she starred alongside funny gal Amy Schumer in the box office comedy smash Trainwreck.
But Larson’s role in Room is the one that’s getting her the most attention, including some Oscar buzz. Based on Emma Donoghue’s novel, the film stars Larson as a young woman who is kidnapped and kept in a shed for years — along with her 5-year-old son, Jack (played by Jacob Tremblay), who was born in captivity and never experienced the outside world.
However, Larson is overwhelmed with the excitement of the Oscar buzz. She told CBS News, “It’s just not even something that your brain can wrap itself around.”
