The role of a lifetime! Bill Murray bartended at his son Homer’s Brooklyn restaurant on Friday, September 16, hamming it up with attendees and pouring drinks for fans all night long.
The Caddyshack star, 65, poured shots of George Clooney‘s Casamigos tequila for the opening of Homer’s 21 Greenpoint to a packed bar with a line wrapped around the block. “He was hilarious and jovial,” UsMagazine.com Deputy Editor Justin Ravitz says. “Boogied a bit to the music and was hamming it up for the crowd.”
At one point in the evening, four firefighters got behind the bar with Murray and snapped photos with him. Ravitz adds that the comedy icon even made a “very sweet dedication and toast” to his son.
“This is my firstborn son, Homer,” Murray told the crowd. “I am so happy that he has not continued in the family business. Instead, he has taken the joy of the family to have a drink, and to have a meal, and have friends together in one place, and made it his life’s work. To my son, his friends, and his work friends and all of his partners.”
The actor has five other sons — Luke, 31, with ex-wife Margaret Kelly, and Caleb, 23, Jackson, 21, Cooper, 19, and Lincoln, 15, with ex-wife Jennifer Butler.
“The staff was so kind and warm despite the chaos,” Ravitz says, noting that only those on a list were given entry to the hot spot, though a few patient fans were later allowed inside.
Murray previously bartended before at SXSW in 2010, similarly pouring out tequila shots for revelers.
He is slated to bartend again at 21 Greenpoint on Saturday, September 17.
