No joking matter. Comedien Amy Schumer was uncharacteristically sombre when she spoke to Marie Claire about her early sexual experiences, revealing they occurred without her consent.
The Trainwreck actress, 35, admitted she didn't realize the severity of the situation until she revisited the experience by reading her own journals and reminded herself that losing her virginity at 17 wasn't something she had even agreed to.
"My first sexual experience was not a good one," Schumer told the magazine. "I didn't think about it until I started reading my journal again. When it happened, I wrote about it almost like a throwaway. It was like, And then I looked down and realized he was inside me. He was saying, 'I'm so sorry' and 'I can't believe I did this.'"
Schumer said she feels no need to punish or even discuss what happened with the guy in question, who is no longer part of her life ("This was 17 years ago. There are just so many factors," she said). But the actress did admit that her first non-consensual sexual experience didn't turn out to be her last.
"I had another time with a boyfriend where I was saying, ‘No, stop,' and it was just completely ignored," she revealed, while adding she didn't consider herself a victim.
Thankfully, Schumer's current relationship with Ben Hanisch is different entirely from her early experiences. Although, the comedienne did admit that there are downsides to the love she feels for her new squeeze.
"Being in love is the scariest thing in the world. You want to f–king cry and scream. I can't handle it. Every time we say goodbye, I think, 'This will have been a nice last week together,'" she admitted.
"Or I tell myself nothing is real and he's going to leave me and tell me he never loved me," she continued. "I feel so bad for him. How exhausting it must be dating me."
