When summer starts to turn into fall, Tia Mowry‘s son, Cree, 5, “loves playing in the leaves!” the Food Network Star Kids host tells Us Weekly. With the little boy’s favorite autumn activity in mind, Mowry, 38, picked a project to embrace the kindergartner’s playful nature.
Watch the mother-and-son duo, who selected and pressed a few fallen leaves from the backyard, fashion the leaves into stingrays and fish on homemade greeting cards in the fun video above!
The former Sister, Sister actress mused that she and husband Cory Hardrict may have a future marine biologist on their hands. “We’ve gone to the aquarium and he’s very much into fish and stingrays,” she explains to Us. “I think it’s really great to have him use his imagination in this way!”
It’s not the first time Cree has channeled his love of sea life into his artwork. Earlier this month, his mom helped him create a shark backpack. Cree “loved making the teeth” and pretending to be eaten, Mowry shared with Us.
After signing his name, Cree popped one greeting card in the mail for his beloved Pop-Pop, who encourages him to go outside and play.
“He’s really good at spelling and writing his name,” Mowry says of her son. “That’s rewarding!”
The star praises the craft project “because you can use it, not just hang it up.”
And, as an added bonus, the former child actress says: “It’s cheap, it’s easy,” and it helps her family “stay connected.”
