#Dadgoals. In a 2013 interview with Details, Ryan Reynolds said that he wanted “a big family” with wife Blake Lively, who — as Us Weekly exclusively revealed on Thursday, April 14 — is pregnant with baby No. 2.
“We’d love to have a big family,” he told the magazine one year before welcoming daughter James, now nearly 16 months, with Lively, 28, on December 15, 2014. “We both come from big families — my parents did four, Blake’s did five. A lot of people say it’s crazy, but we’ll only know when we’re there, you know? We’ll walk through that fire pretty happily, I think.”
Now the actor, 39, is one step closer to mirroring the family dynamic both he and Lively grew up with as he prepares for the arrival of the pair’s second child.
At the time of his chat with Details — and before the Gossip Girl alum gave birth to a baby girl — Reynolds joked that he was scared of having boys.
“I’m terrified that I’m genetically predisposed to only having boys. That’s frightening,” he admitted. “By the time I was 10 years old, and I’m not exaggerating, I knew how to patch drywall. There’s nothing my brothers and I didn’t put a hole in. We turned our home into a Wiffle house. That’s something I’m not looking forward to.”
As of now, it remains uncertain if the Hollywood couple — who married in 2012 after meeting on the set of 2011’s The Green Lantern — will give little James a brother or sister. Lively’s baby bump was recently on display in a fitted wetsuit as the actress filmed scenes in Malibu for her upcoming film The Shallows.
Reynolds was previously married to Scarlett Johansson, with whom he tied the knot in 2008 and divorced in 2011. Prior to her relationship with Reynolds, Lively dated fellow Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley.
