America Ferrera was training for her third triathlon when she became pregnant with her first child. “I had to slow down a little bit,” the 33-year-old actress told Us Weekly at The North Face’s Make Movements Launch earlier this month.
Ferrera, who in 2017 completed a .93 mile swim, 24.98-mile bike ride and 6.2 mile run in 3:49:48 — now releases endorphins with prenatal yoga and leisurely strolls. “I have a lot of friends who are pregnant right now, which is really lucky for me because we take really long, slow pregnant lady walks,” the Superstore actress told Us. “We’ll just hike a little mountain and we’re done.”
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants star, who will take off from work when the baby arrives, says her new pace is a welcome change. “It’s been really good for me,” she revealed. “I’m somebody who likes to do a lot, sometimes to my own detriment, and this has forced me to slow down in a really healthy, good way and really be kinder to myself . . . and let this be a time when my body is doing something completely new and unique and letting it just do that.”
Ferrera announced on New Year’s Eve that she and her husband, Ryan Piers Williams, are expecting their first child together. The couple, who tied the knot in June 2011, have not publicly shared the baby’s due date or sex. But the Ugly Betty alum is more than happy to disclose details about how Williams, 36, has been spoiling her.
“He’s been wonderful,” she gushed to Us. “He’s cooking for me. He made me blueberry pancakes for breakfast two days in a row!”
And Ferrera has her Sisterhood gang for all baby-related questions. Blake Lively shares daughters James, 3, and Ines, 19 months, with husband Ryan Reynolds. Alexis Bledel has a son with Vincent Kartheiser, while Amber Tamblyn and David Cross are parents of daughter Marlow, 14 months. No question is off limits with these pals.
“They are a go-to for me, just one message away and I ask them a million questions,” Ferrara admitted. “Everything from trying to wrap my mind around the actual birth to talking about what their experiences were and what to prepare for.”
“I’m so lucky that I have so many amazing women around me,” she continued. “Having their support has been everything.”
