How Kristen Bell Is Making a ‘Really Tiny Change’ to Fairy Tales to Empower Her Daughters (Exclusive)

Kristen Bell isn’t satisfied with most happily ever afters.

“I see a lot of books my daughters are given,” notes the mom of Lincoln, 4, and Delta, 3. “And it’s all about the prince wanting to marry the princess and all he does is kiss her and she says ‘Yes!’”

So when the actress — voice of Frozen’s badass heroine Anna — closes the book, “I say, ‘I wonder why he didn’t get to know her? I wonder why he didn’t ask her whether she wanted to marry him?’” she explains. “It’s a really tiny change, but I’m definitely working toward empowering them.”

What else does she strive to teach her girls? The A Bad Moms Christmas star, 37, says she and husband Dax Shepard send their children to a preschool “that prides itself in emotional learning.”

“When the kids get physical with each other — which they do because they’re all feral at this point — they teach them to say things like, ‘I don’t like it when you touch my body like that.’ They say that to me: ‘I don’t like having my hair touched.’”

The Enterprise spokeswoman, who made history when she became the first-ever host (and female host!) of the SAG Awards on January 21, says she urges other parents out there to empower their daughters, especially during a time of female power – and the recent changes that are happening in Hollywood. Says the star, “I’m glad that people are standing up and talking about tough topics right now.”
