“Lift Yourself” rapper Kanye West didn’t exactly rise to the occasion when his daughter Chicago was being brought into the world on January 15. Kim Kardashian said that her husband, 40, was playing Connect 4 while their surrogate, La’Reina Haynes, delivered their baby.
“We had a connecting room and Kanye was in there playing Connect 4 with his friends and not really paying attention,” Kardashian revealed on the Monday, April 30, episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. That’s when the beauty mogul called on her sister Kourtney Kardashian.
“I was like, ‘Kourtney, I need you to be here with me,’” Kim recalled.
According to Kim, West is “the best” at Connect 4. “I’m so bad at it,” she quipped.
The 37-year-old reality star admitted she was nervous about what the birth would be like. She had carried both daughter North, 4 and son Saint, 2, and this was a whole new experience. “It was great. It was so easy,” Kim told DeGeneres. “The second she came out, any fear that I had of, ‘Will I not have this connection? Will she not look like me?’ All of that goes out the door. And instantly, she’s ours.”
Meanwhile, West and Connect 4 go way back. In 2008, the 21-time Grammy winner blogged about how he would play the game “for hours and hours . . . it helped me zone out.” And his biggest competition was none other than Beyonce. “She beat me 9 times in a row!” wrote West. (and I didn’t even spaz lol!)
