Is it handled yet? Kerry Washington opened up about her second pregnancy and joked about potential baby names during a Wednesday, September 7, appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The actress, 39 — who stopped by DeGeneres’ show to talk about her participation in the Allstate Foundation Purple Purse campaign, a charity benefitting domestic and financial abuse victims — spoke about hiding her baby bump while filming scenes for Scandal, as seen in the clip above.
“Big coats, big bags … hiding behind different body parts of other actors,” Washington explained of the tricks she uses to hide her growing belly while playing Olivia Pope. The ABC star went on to say that she hides behind the “bigger body parts” of her costars, which caused the audience to burst out laughing.
“Like, if I’m in the back of the room, it can be, like, somebody’s leg, and I’m positioned behind it,” Washington added to DeGeneres, 58, whose wife, Portia de Rossi, also appears on the hit series. “Lamps are good … vases!”
“What kind of acting are y’all doing that someone’s standing like … ” DeGeneres asked, positioning her leg on Washington’s chair to cover her tummy, inspiring another uproarious round of guffaws from the crowd.
Washington — who welcomed daughter Isabelle, 2, with husband Nnamdi Asomugha in April 2014 — remained mum on the gender of her next bundle of joy and was careful not to divulge details about what she and her hubby might choose as a name.
“We’re hoping for a human,” the Emmy nominee teased. And while she and Asomugha have a few names in mind, she told the daytime host that she won’t be revealing any of them. DeGeneres wasn’t ready to give up so easily, though, and asked to play a little guessing game.
“Ellen!” the host suggested.
“That is at the top of the list,” the Django Unchained star quipped back. DeGeneres’ next suggestion was her wife’s name, Portia, to which Washington replied, “Duh.”
