Ellen DeGeneres was immediately smitten when she met Kelly Clarkson’s 3-year-old daughter, River. Clarkson appeared on the talk show host’s Thursday, April 26, episode and she brought her sister, Alyssa, and little River along for company backstage.
“River recognized me!” DeGeneres, 60, announced. “Her voice is so tiny and soft.” Clarkson quickly replied: “She’s authoritative though.”
Clarkson then shared that River had been guiding her aunt Alyssa around the building where the show tapes, “as if it were her own.”
The Voice coach acknowledged that River bosses around her 2-year-old brother, Remy. Clarkson and her husband, Brandon Blackstock, warned the little girl that Remy would soon start pushing back. And he did.
“He will just full on punch her,” revealed the three-time Grammy winner. “I don’t know what to do. Cause you want him to defend himself. She’ll wait until your back is turned and she’ll push him. She’ll push him down and think we won’t figure it out.”
“It’s a fine line of stick up for yourself and then don’t hit people,” continued the “Piece by Piece” singer. “But if she knocks him, I’m like, ‘Well, you asked for it.”
Clarkson is always refreshingly honest about motherhood and has opened up about how hard it is to miss things because of work. That is why she takes time to read to the little ones individually and brings them on the road with her when possible. “I don’t want to be one of those pop stars moms that doesn’t see their kids,” she said during a 2017 interview on Today. “I want to hang out with them and be there.”
