Jimmy Kimmel returned to late-night on Monday, November 6, after taking a week off to be with his family.
“Officially, I was off because my son Billy was supposed to have his next heart surgery. But we had to postpone it because we all had colds,” he told the audience. He joked: “But the truth is, I was waiting in line for the new iPhone all week.”
Celeb Dads Who Had Children Late in Life
Back in May, Kimmel, 49, revealed in an emotional monologue that his son underwent heart surgery after doctors noticed that he had a heart murmur shortly after he was born. The three-hour operation was successful, but Billy would need two more surgeries.
During his absence, stars — including Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum and Dave Grohl — filled in for Kimmel behind the desk.
“Anyway, my son is doing fine. I want to thank everyone who filled in for me. Shaquille O’Neal, who I would like to thank twice — because he’s enormous,” Kimmel added on Monday night. “It was good to have some time at home with the kids. But there is such a thing as too much time at home with the kids. And last night at abut 6 o’clock, I reached that time limit.”
Kimmel and his wife, Molly McNearney, are also parents of daughter Jane, 3.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs weeknights on ABC at 11:35 p.m. ET.
