Big decision! When it came to choosing a name for their first child, Jordan Lloyd admits she and husband Jeff Schroeder struggled to find a name she really liked.
“We couldn’t come up with a name that we agreed on!” the 30-year-old new mom explains. “Jeff wanted to do the whole ‘J’ thing — Jeff, Jordan and then a ‘J’ name for him. I was like, ‘No!’”
Lloyd wanted something more unique for her son, who the couple of seven years welcomed on October 13. “I couldn’t really find a ‘J’ name that I really liked. There were some that I did like — Jack, I think is cute — but I was like, everybody has Jack then,” she says of the 24th most popular boys name of 2016, according to BabyCenter.com.
Once they broadened the search past J names, it was Lloyd’s sister who inspired her future nephew’s name, Lawson Keith. “My sister sent a text message to me and was like, ‘Do you like the name Lawson?’ and I was like, ‘I like that. I didn’t even think of that.’ And so I asked Jeff and he goes, ‘You know what, I don’t hate it either.’ So it was the only name really that we both agreed on that we both weren’t like, ‘Oh, I hate it,’” she says.
After narrowing it down to two names, Lawson and Lincoln, the couple decided to make a final decision at the hospital. As for his middle name, Keith, that was a no-brainer.
“My dad’s name is Keith. It’s kind of a tradition of ours,” Schroeder explains. “My middle name is Edward, after my grandfather on my dad’s side, so I kind of wanted to keep that. I wanted to keep at least traditions that my family has passed along, so I got to do Keith as a middle name, and Jordan kind of got to pick the first name.”
