Keeping it 100. Hilary Duff revealed during a Thursday, December 1, appearance on The Talk that she felt like she was judged for starting a family early on in her career.
While discussing Jennifer Aniston’s recent comments about society’s belief that women are “useless” if they don’t have a baby, the Younger actress, 29 — who was filling in on the daytime program for cohost Julie Chen — said that she had the opposite reaction after giving birth to her son in 2012 at 24 years old.
“I think it’s really interesting because I see her point and she is such a beautiful role model and a smart woman to have the courage to say these things in Hollywood,” Duff, who shares Luca with ex-husband Mike Comrie, said. “But I feel like I was judged for having a baby too soon and getting married too soon, and now I’m pigeonholed for being a ‘mom.’”
The Disney Channel alum, who finalized her divorce from Comrie, 36, this past January after they split in 2014, and had been married three years before their separation, went on to say that women face the most criticism in the entertainment business — whether they have kids or not.
“But then lots of women in the industry that don’t have a child yet are judged for not having a child and it’s crazy that women, we are the most in-demand and the most desirable, but the most judged and the hardest on one another,” she added. “You know, [there’s] so much scrutiny. Nobody cares about men’s personal lives as much as women’s.”
The “Come Clean” singer opened up about her own personal life — and her decision to settle down so soon — during a November 8 interview on her Younger costar Nico Tortorella’s The Love Bomb podcast.
"When we were deciding to get married, I was totally down and I felt totally ready. I had already been working as an adult since I was 12 years old,” the former child star said. "So 22 doesn't seem that crazy to get married.”
