Courtney Stodden and her husband, Doug Hutchison, are mourning the loss of their unborn child. The 21-year-old reality starlet, who was pregnant and expecting her first child with Hutchison, 56, recently suffered a miscarriage, her rep confirms to Us Weekly.
“It is with a heavy heart to inform you that last week Courtney Stodden suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage. Courtney and her husband, Doug, are at an emotional loss for words and are using this time to grieve with their close family and friends,” Stodden’s rep told Us in a statement on Sunday, July 17. “Please respect their privacy as the couple try to cope with losing their precious baby and seek the support they both need.”
While the “Reality” singer was glowing back in May at six weeks pregnant, she told Us at the time that she was going through a bout of depression, which was hard to handle as an expectant mom.
“I suffer from depression. My depression affects my appetite, sleeping patterns and overall perspective on life,” Stodden explained. “At times, I have severe insomnia and other times I find myself sleeping too much. I have feelings of hopelessness but experience many moments of absolute euphoria.”
Despite the emotional ups and downs of carrying her first child, the blonde bombshell told Us that she already felt a deep connection to her little one: “I already love this baby so much. I just fear the thought of motherhood. It’s such an overwhelming responsibility and I want to be the very best mommy that I can possibly be.”
The former teen bride confirmed her baby news to Us exclusively on May 16.
“It’s a bittersweet time for me right now. I’m dealing with a lot of stress and emotions surrounding life and its ups and downs,” she told Us at the time. “Doug and I weren’t planning on going public with this so soon. I’m only four weeks along in my pregnancy. But some things are out of your control.”
Stodden wed Hutchison — who is 34 years her senior — on May 20, 2011, when she was just 16 years old. The couple appeared on VH1’s Couples Therapy With Dr. Jenn in 2012 and briefly split in 2013 before rekindling their romance in 2014.
“Doug is wonderful,” Stodden told Us of the Green Mile and Lost actor in 2011. “He picks up my coffee beans that I spill on the floor. He picks up my foundation. He picks up my feathers from my big robe that I wear. My high heels are all over. I have a wonderful life, a wonderful husband.”
