Body shamers to the left. Blake Lively spoke out in a new interview about the pressure society often puts on new mothers to drop their pregnancy weight quickly after giving birth.
The 28-year-old actress, who is expecting her second child with husband Ryan Reynolds, addressed the issue during an appearance on Sunrise when the interviewer praised Lively for her post-baby bikini body in her latest film The Shallows.
“It’s so unfair though, because it’s so celebrated,” Lively said on the Australian morning show on Monday, August 8. “It’s like, this is what someone can look like after a baby. I think a woman’s body after having a baby is pretty amazing.”
The Gossip Girl alum continued, “You don’t need to be Victoria’s Secret ready right away because you just did the most incredible miracle that life has to offer. I mean, you gave birth to a human being! So I would really like to see that celebrated.”
Lively filmed The Shallows just eight months after her and Reynolds, 39, welcomed their first child, daughter James, in December 2014.
Earlier this year, Us Weekly exclusively revealed that the happy couple were expecting another bundle of joy.
Lively later confirmed the news during an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, where she joked of her burgeoning bump, “This is not brownies.”
As for James, now 19 months? “I feel like at a year and a half, she’s equipped to be a babysitter. Like, [Ryan and I] can go out and go on a date night,” the actress quipped to Seth Meyers in June.
