Andy Cohen is ready to be dad! The host is “well under way with preparations for the baby to arrive,” a source tells Us Weekly exclusively.
Cohen, 50, announced at the end of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Thursday, December 20, that he is expecting a baby via surrogate.
“I’ve always tried to be as transparent as possible about my life. I over share and I expect everyone around me to do the same and tonight I want you to be the first to know that after many years of careful deliberation, fair amount of prayers and the benefit of science, if all goes according to plan, in about six weeks time, I’m going to become a father thanks to a wonderful surrogate who is carrying my future,” he told the crowd, who erupted in cheer. “Family means everything to me and having one of my own is something I’ve wanted in my heart for my entire life and though it has taken me longer than most to get there, I cannot wait for what I envision will be the most rewarding chapter yet.”
Cohen concluded: ”To the viewers at home, I call you my friends at home because we are friends. You have supported me through almost 10 years night after night. This has been an incredible, joyous journey with you all. I am grateful to live my dream everyday and grateful to you for coming along for the ride. I don’t take any of it for granted.”
The source also tells Us that starting a family is “something Andy has talked about wanting to do for a long while now.”
Thursday’s episode of WWHL also served as a holiday special, featuring original Real Housewives, including Kyle Richards, Teresa Giudice, Ramona Singer, NeNe Leakes and Vicki Gunvalson.
After his big announcement, Cohen hit the town with the OGs.
“It’s afterparty time with big daddy! Big daddy to be,” Richards, 49, exclaimed on her Instagram Story at a bar with Cohen and her fellow Housewives.
Other celebs, including John Mayer, Anderson Cooper, Kelly Ripa, Busy Philipps and more, congratulated Cohen via Instagram.
