Sharing her truth. Amber Portwood revealed that she and ex-fiancé Matt Baier suffered a miscarriage.
In Teen Mom OG’s sneak peek for the show’s Monday, November 5, episode, Portwood, 28, reflects on the heartbreaking experience during a conversation with first ex-fiancé Gary Shirley’s wife, Kristina Anderson.
Anderson tells Portwood that she too suffered a miscarriage, despite having had her tubes tied.
“I went to the doctor and they did the ultrasound and found the heartbeat,” Anderson explained in the clip. “They told me there was nothing they could do. If I could’ve chose, I would’ve not [heard the heartbeat].”
Portwood then noted that, when she underwent a similar experience, she “didn’t hear the heartbeat or anything like that. I didn’t even go to the hospital, actually. That’s really sad. I’m so sorry you had to go through that.”
Meanwhile, Baier opened up about the tragic loss while speaking to Radar on Wednesday, October 31.
“It was a difficult time for both of us. Even now, it’s difficult to think about,” he told the site, noting that he kept the incident private because he would “never violate [Amber’s] trust and reveal anything about the event that she herself doesn’t want revealed.”
He added: “I promised her a long time ago that anything that happened in our private life would stay private until she wanted to discuss it. I will always honor that.”
Portwood and her boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, welcomed their first child together, son James, in May. She also shares 9-year-old daughter Leah with Shirley.
