Amber Portwood has had enough. The Teen Mom OG star broke down crying while filming a live Instagram video on Monday, November 12 — her daughter Leah’s 10th birthday.
“I just really don’t understand how I am a bad mom. I really don’t, I haven’t done anything to be in a bad mom,” Portwood, 28, fumed. She then referenced her attack on Leah’s dad Gary Shirley in 2009. (MTV aired footage of Portwood slapping and choking the 31-year-old baker on season 1. In 2011, the 16 and Pregnant alum pleaded guilty to domestic battery of Shirley.)
“Anything that I did nine or 10 years ago is something I did nine or 10 years ago but it is not something that should be thrown in my face,” Portwood declared on Instagram. “The only person who needs to forgive me is Gary and God, not you guys.”
The reality personality then proudly showed off the colorful birthday cake she made for Leah. “Leah told me that today was one of the best days of her life . . . and it’s like I go online and I get so much hate,” Portwood said. “I feel like I am getting bullied.”
Portwood then took a shot at the series that has made her a household name. “The show has seriously ruined my image as a mom when the truth hasn’t even been put out there. I have such a great relationship with [Leah],” the Indiana native explained. “I will not be the villain anymore for this show because I am not a villain anymore. I can’t keep blocking hates, I can’t keep doing it.”
While Portwood hasn’t made any official decisions about whether or not she’ll return to Teen Mom for season 8, she has an idea of what her future looks like. “My next journey is going to be helping people,” she stated. “I will not be able to move froward with this show unless I am able to show my truth and that’s all I got to say. I love you guys and I don’t know if I am going to be back or not because I want my story shown.”
Portwood and her boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, are parents of 6-month-old James. She and former fiancé Gary Shirley split in 2011.
