Jia Sarnicola and Zuri Copeland are not related. They weren’t born on the same day either. But the 4-year-olds, who couldn’t look more different — Jia is Caucasian and Zuri is African American — insist they are twins.
“They were at a birthday party for a mutual friend, waiting in line to get their faces painted,” Jia’s mom, Ashley, told ABC News. “She was telling a girl’s older sister they were twins, and the girl gave her an odd look and said , ‘You’re not twins.’”
That’s when Jia began to cry. “She truly believes she and Zuri are twins,” Ashley explained.

Jia later set the disbeliever straight, telling her “we have the same soul,” and the same birthday (they were born two days apart, but celebrated the occasion together).
Jia and Zuri, who met at school in Miami two years ago, are a perfect match. “They’re both little Geminis,” Ashley told ABC News. “They have very strong personalities and are both super outgoing, well-spoken, intelligent and not afraid to tell you what they want. They hit it off right away.”

According to Ashley, the soul sisters don’t notice each others physical differences. “We have always taught the girls that being different is cool and to make friends with new people every day,” Ashley told BuzzFeed News. “In their class at school, there are six different languages between the 15 kids.”
Ashley added that Jia has told her “she wishes she had chocolate-color skin like Zuri because she likes chocolate better than vanilla.”
